Prevention of injuries

Studies have shown that a high number of goalkeeping injuries occure in practice drills. A high number of these injuries happen during pre-season. 75% of training injuries are non contact.

Below is is list of things you should be doing as a goalkeeper to prevent injuries.

  • Warm up
  • Cool down
  • Conditioning - a regular assessment
  • Core Stability work
  • Flexibility
  • Correct equipment
  • Closed season maintenaince
  • Pre season training specific to goalkeeping
  • Adequate recovery
  • Early reporting of injury
  • Early referal if necessary
  • Adequate and complete rehab - functional fitness test
  • Education
