Prevention of injuries
Studies have shown that a high number of goalkeeping injuries occure in practice drills. A high number of these injuries happen during pre-season. 75% of training injuries are non contact.
Below is is list of things you should be doing as a goalkeeper to prevent injuries.
- Warm up
- Cool down
- Conditioning - a regular assessment
- Core Stability work
- Flexibility
- Correct equipment
- Closed season maintenaince
- Pre season training specific to goalkeeping
- Adequate recovery
- Early reporting of injury
- Early referal if necessary
- Adequate and complete rehab - functional fitness test
- Education
